The Inspiration
The Heian Period was the golden age of Japanese civilization (794-1160). Influenced by China, the Japanese developed their own culture based on an interpretation of the natural world around them. The four seasons continue to play a major role in Japanese creativity. And, again, Terry Sasaki, exemplifies this creativity in his modern application of rice paper collage.

Terry Sasaki has long been fascinated with hand-made rice paper, primarily its natural texture. The acrylic colours used by Terry, lend themselves well to this textured material, but also exemplifies his melding of East and West. The rich and vibrant hues are influenced by the modern movement in art.
